“There is pain across North America when it comes to the oil industry”. That comment came from Christopher Guith. The Senior VP-Policy for the Institute for 21st Century Energy with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce was talking to delegates at the Oil & Gas Awards Industry Summit.
Guith told the crowd the oil industry is the one that kept the continent going during the last recession and was one of the few that was hiring. Now it is hurting and it’s important the public be made aware of that and the ramifications.
Guith also touched on the controversy sweeping through both the U.S. and Canada regarding fracking. The industry claims it is a safe effective method of extracting oil. Those in opposition say its dangerous and needs to be stopped. “If we are not proactive”, says Guith, “the other side will dominate the discussion before the public.
