Support for the pipeline that would run from northern Alberta through B.C. to the west coast is split between the two provinces, but it’s slipping in both.
According to a poll by Insights West, two-thirds of Albertans support the pipeline. That’s a drop from three out of four in January 2013. In B.C. Enbridge’s project only enjoys 38 percent support a dip of four percent
Insights West poll:
Are you worried about the expected increase in oil tanker traffic?
Are you worried about the risk of an oil spill?
Do you believe the pipeline will support economic growth?
Do you believe it will create new jobs?
Insights West vice-president Mario Canseco says the numbers show even though the Harper Government gave it’s conditional stamp of approval, the two provinces affected by the project did not see that as a reason to back the Northern Gateway in greater numbers.
Results have a margin of error of plus or minus 4.3 percentage points for B.C. and 4.1 percentage points for Alberta, 19 times out of 20.
